On Thursday May 24, 2001, a private jet landed at the Greater Peoria Airport. On board were seven haitian children, Kathy Gmeiner from Maryland and Dr. John Carroll of Peoria. Dr.
Carroll had been in Haiti for about a month, treating patients and assembling a group of children to come to Peoria for additional medical treatment. The group had been ready to come but was
unable due to a shortage of commercial airline seats during the Memorial Day travel rush. When Kathy Gmeiner learned of the problem, she put out an appeal for a private jet. Rockford based Rubloff Aviation
responded by donating the jet and Arthur Anderson by donating the fuel. The group arrived in Peoria on the 24th at about 8:45pm. The Haitian children aboard were Moise Richardson(5 mos), Richard
Mandelson(15), Daniel Descardes(19), Ledy Cram(18 mos), Caleb Derestil(14), Phillipe Lonnie(5), and Adonis Auguste(8 mos). |
