SIMONE

Simone was three years old when he came to the states.  He was abandoned at Missionaries of Charity.  I saw Simone when I went to Haiti.  He sat in his crib and it seemed there was no life in him.  He came in June of 1998.  The first day he was very quiet.  He could sit up and feed himself but he could not walk.  The second day he became a different child.  He was so full of love and life.  It was incredible to see this change in him.  He recovered quickly from his shunt placement for hydrocephalus.  We grew attached to each other.  It was easy to love him, yet I knew my heart would only be broken again.  At the end of the summer Simone went to Indiana to live.  He was adopted by the Denton family.  I drove him to Indiana and spent the night at the Dentons and left the next day.  It was again hard to let go, but I knew once more it was all in God's plan.  I would be asked how can you let your heart be broken and are you going to do it again?  I knew after getting back from Indiana I wanted to do it again soon.  The blessing in taking care of one of these dear children is so indescribable.  I always received so much more than I ever gave.  Yes, it was difficult at times but the good times outweighed the bad.
